ChemSpider is a free access service providing a structure centric community for chemists. Providing access to millions of chemical structures and integration to a multitude of other online services, ChemSpider is the richest single source of structure-based chemistry information.[http://www.chemspider.com/]
If you are an iPhone user, or use a phone with a browser, I suggest you point it to the new ChemSpider Mobile at http://cs.m.chemspider.com . There you’ll see a simple interface, shown below, that allows you to search across our database of almost 25 million chemical entities based on chemical name systematic, trivial or trade, registry number etc and retrieve a list of intrinsic properties, a list of predicted properties, a list of associated identifiers, with links to Wikipedia if available, and a Google based search for the chemical based, for now, on the associated InChIKey.
We are also working on providing access to ChemSpider SyntheticPages in the same way and the first screen shot is shown at the bottom. Things are always changing and, I believe, for the better.

Because of the Learning Hub redevelopment, the Barr Smith Library has a significant shortage of study places. In order to make more places available, we are demolishing the small-group study rooms on Levels 1 and 2, and converting the space to single study carrels. We will also make a small area available on Level 2 South available for quiet group study.
Students should also consider the Reading Room as a place for silent study, where there are usually many vacant seats available.
Once again we apologise for the disruption and inconvenience caused.

Another eResource provider — Scopus — now has a mobile app available. If you’re a regular Scopus user, and you have an iPhone, you’ll want to give this one a try.
Scopus Alerts (Lite) gives researchers mobile access to the Searching and Alerting features of Scopus. It’s designed to eliminate the need for you to seek out a desktop or laptop computer to search for quality research data while travelling, attending conferences or commuting to work.
This free mobile app is specifically for existing Scopus subscribers and includes some of the most popular features:
- Search across thousands of scholarly journals.
- Share search results and article links through e-mail or Twitter.
- Save important abstracts in one place for easy look-up.
- Set up and review e-mail alerts for favorite searches.
- Set up e-mail alerts for when an author cites a particular article.
- Annotate abstracts with your own notes.
Before using the app, you need to visit the Scopus site on your desktop and register using your University email address.

As part of the Hughes Plaza Learning Hub project, the builders need to install temporary stormwater pipes under Level 3 South (the area of construction). The pipes for this are being installed across the ceiling of parts of Level 2 South in the Barr Smith Library. These will be removed once the Learning Hub roof is constructed. While major core drilling is being done between 6am and 8am, there is still some work to be done during the day on Level 2.
We apologise for any inconvenience.

Regular visitors to the Barr Smith Library will have noticed a great deal of building activity. This is all related to the Hughes Plaza Learning Hub, which has a significant impact on the Library since most of Level 3 South is directly beneath the Plaza, so that all services in that area have been relocated elsewhere within the Library.
These are projects that have been recently completed (or soon will be!) in the Library:
